Un soldato si rifiuta di obbedire
Un soldato israeliano, il sergente Shabbat si è rifiutato di
obbedire ad un ordine di emergenza e di presentarsi come riserva in Libano: «Penso che questo tipo di
opposizione da me scelto porrà fine alla follia in corso e che scuoterà il
falso sentimento che tutto il fronte interno appoggia questa guerra non
necessaria che si fonda su considerazioni ingannevoli. Qualcuno doveva pur
cominciare a rompere il silenzio, e questo qualcuno sarò io. È una vergogna che
il mio ordine sia stato firmato da un’altra persona che ha la residenza a Sderot,
il ministro della Difesa Amir Peretz».
Shabbat si era già rifiutato di entrare in servizio
nei territori occupati, ed è stato condannato a 28 giorni di carcere. È stato
uno dei firmatari della petizone del movimento di rifiuto “Courage to refuse”.
Il più ampio movimento Yeh Gvul iniziò la propria opposizione alla guerra contro
il Libano del 1982 e solo in seguito
anche per i territori occupati.

An Israeli soldier — Staff Sergeant Itzik
Shabbat — has refused to comply with an emergency order (Tsav 8) to report
today for reserve duty in Lebanon.
Shabbat said, “In my opinion, only this type of opposition that I’ve
chosen will put an end to the madness that is going on now and will shatter the
false feeling that the entire home front supports this unnecessary war that is
based on deceptive considerations. Someone has to be the first to break the
silence and it will be me. It is a shame that my order was signed by another
Sderot resident, Defense Minister Amir Peretz.”
Shabbat has refused to serve in the Occupied Territories before — going to prison for
28 days. He was one of the signatories to the petition of the refusal movement,
Courage to Refuse.
The larger Yesh Gvul movement started by opposing the 1982 Lebanon war and only later the Occupied Territories,
too.
